BOONVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The people of Boonville gathered at the American Legion on Saturday to celebrate Police Chief Daryl Saltzman.

Mayor Charlie Wyatt announced Chief Saltzman will be retiring at the end of the month.

Saltzman has been with the Boonville Police Department for 36 years, including 17 and a half years as chief.

He says it’s been an honor to serve his community all these years, and has felt their support since his retirement was made official on Friday.

“I’ve been truly blessed by the support of the community, as well as the administration over the years,” Chief Saltzman said. “I’m going to be still serving the community, just in a different capacity. I’m looking forward to that as well.”

Saltzman says he’ll miss his fellow police officers and doing the job, but says he’s looking forward to what’s next.

His last day is set for March 31.
