Dawson Springs Youth League officials asking for public’s help after equipment stolen

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. (WFIE) - Officials with Dawson Springs Youth League say they are asking for the public’s help after equipment was stolen from their storage unit.

The league officials say after the Dec. 10 tornadoes, the team was left with an unusable city park, and multiple children had lost their equipment. Donations were given from other leagues, private individuals and organizations, which would be used for current and future players.

However, they say Sunday night it was discovered that their storage unit was broken into, and the donations had been stolen.

The Dawson Springs Youth Baseball League is a big deal in town according to their president, Jordan Dalton.

“Baseball is a summer staple here in this town,” says Dalton, “we have people that don’t have kids playing that still come out and watch games.”

Which is what makes the pill the league was handed on Sunday night that much harder to swallow.

“We were getting ready to start our 2023 season, and I went to check our storage unit, and it had been broken into and everything stolen,” says Dalton.

All of the donated bats, gloves, helmets, pants, cleats, and training equipment was gone when Dalton arrived, looking to find some gear for a few kids as practice rolls around the corner.

“That’s just to help kids out that are less fortunate,” says Dalton, “can’t afford the expensive equipment, because it is expensive, and basically without that they might not be able to play and have a good summer.”

Having played in the league and with kids now playing in it, Dalton and Dawson Springs Youth Baseball were undeterred.

“It’s too good of a thing for something as little as some stolen equipment to let it stop. I’ll do whatever it takes, and I’ll be here for anybody that needs my help, and so will our board,” says Dalton.

Dalton says obviously, this is a setback for them and the league to lose all of that equipment, but he says they’ve already received an incredible outpouring of support in less than 24 hours.

So, the goal remains the same: keep the league going, and provide the best summer imaginable for these kids.

According to the baseball group, authorities have been notified of the incident.

They are asking for anyone that may have information regarding the stolen equipment, to contact the Lyon County sheriff.
